THE TOP THREE REASONS TO VISIT OHIO IN THE FALL

  1. Ohio State football – average attendance 101,000
  2. Circleville Pumpkin Show – average attendance 300,000
  3. ACPS Annual Meeting – somewhat less attendance than the other two

The ACPS will be holding its Annual Meeting in Fairlawn, OH, from Thursday, Oct. 1st through Sunday, Oct. 4th. The site for the meeting will be the newly renovated Hilton Akron/Fairlawn which is conveniently located midway between the Cleveland Hopkins and Akron/Canton airports. The tentative schedule for the Meeting is as follows:

Thurs., Oct 1st – Hospitality Suite open and Committee Meetings as scheduled

Fri., Oct 2nd – Board of Governors Meeting in the morning followed by General Membership Meeting in the afternoon.  All you can eat BBQ ribs and chicken cookout on Fri. evening at the Bustas’ Corner Creek Farm

Sat.,Oct 3rd – Presentations in the morning at the Hotel.  Featured speakers will be Dr. Phil Sponenberg who will speak about color genetics, and Dr. Sandra Gebhart, who will speak about equine metabolic disorders.  Saturday afternoon the Youth Council will conduct several informative clinics at Bustas’. After the clinics there will be free time for sight-seeing, socializing or shopping at the nearly renovated Summit Mall, just across the street from the Hotel.  Local attractions include Hale Farm, an 1840’s Western Reserve village, Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens or a hike in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  Additional information will be provided on these venues when your meeting reservation is received.  The Awards Banquet and Silent Auction, as well as the Region “basket” competition will be held at the Hotel on Sat. evening. Keynote speaker will be Thom MacLoughlainn, immediate past President of the ICCPS and CPBS. Sun., Oct 4th – ACPS Inspections at the Busta’s – open to all.  Thom MacLoughlainn will be one of the inspectors.

Reserve your king or two double bed rooms at the Hilton now at the special rate of $99.00 per night, plus tax, using the Hilton’s secure website.

Go to akronhilton.com/ACPS2009, and select “Click Here” to proceed to the reservation page.  Enter the reservation password ACPS2009, and make your reservations.  You can also reserve rooms by calling (330) 867-5000.

Remember to mention the ACPS for the special rate. In order to get the special rate you MUST reserve your room NO LATER THAN September 9, 2009.  For those of you planning on flying to the Meeting, please check schedules and fares from both Akron/Canton and Cleveland Hopkins.  Fares into and out of Akron/Canton are usually less expensive.
