ACPS Weekly Pony News
Week of 10-28-07

Do you have news about your Connemara that you would like to share with other ACPS members? News from all over the world is welcome. Email Donna Duckworth with the details and any photos to connemaras@windstream.net. Show results, results of inspections, new foals or unusual adventures especially welcome! The sire and dam of any ponies should be included. Please note that any professional photos must be accompanied by a photographer's release before they can be used.

Caherlistrane, Ireland: Karen Vicencio, ACPS expatriate, and her famous driving pony, Brannigan (real name -- Balius Derring Do [Balius Brannigan X Connemara Emerald Star]), also an expat, have moved to a new cottage in Ireland. To help with the chores, Brannigan is seen here doing the lawn for Karen. Didn’t take him very long!!

Caherlistrane, Ireland: Karen Vicencio also sent a photo of Fairyhill Heather (Loobeen Larry X Atlantic Aisling [by Tantalon Bobby]), dam of her stallion Fairyhill Hawk (by Moy Hazy Cove) having a word with Jocelyn Davies of Canada as well as a very typical scene of ponies in Ireland.

Sacramento, CA: The ACPS held its annual meeting in California on October 20 and 21. Saturday night was the annual awards banquet which honors the organizations most revered ponies and people. Springledge Bantry Bay (Whitewood Galway Bay X Gentian Hill) won the coveted Toureen Laddie Trophy, given to a stallion that has had an exceptionally positive influence on the breed. Bantry Bay is found in the 3rd, 2nd or 1st generation of the pedigrees of over 500 ponies registered with the ACPS. Many of these are stallion sons or grandsons. Also included in his pedigree are many broodmares whose names are immediately regognizable. Castle Beau Geste (Ballydonagh Cassanova X Tulira Maggie [by Napolean]) received the An Tostal Award for a performance stallion, and Cashel Rock of Ages (Custusha’s Cashel Rock X Erinmoor Lily O’Fallon [ by Hisega Meadows Erin Bobby]) was named Horse of the Year. Carolyn McEvitt’s CKC Katie (by Erin-Go-Bragh) was awarded the Tre Awain Halfbred Trophy. Complete details of all these ponies and awards will be in the next American Connemara.

Sacramento, CA: On Saturday, October 21, the USEF held a clinic for aspiring liscensed Connemara and Welsh judges and auditors. In the morning, Erica Caleca spoke about Welsh Ponies while Catherine Mack talked about Connemara history, type, and conformation. In the afternoon a hands-on session was held at Starr-Vaughn Equestrian Center. Several Welsh ponies were individually examined and then a class of 5 Connemara ponies was placed by Catherine with comments from the attendees. ACPS members who attended were Cathy Blackmon, Donna Duckworth, Chris Knox, Joan Latty, Pat Lightbody, Kathryn Lucas, Jill McNicol, Lee Webster and Joan Webster.

Sacramento, Ca: On Sunday October 22, Inspections were held at Starr Vaughn. Nine ponies, including two blue-eyed cream mares, were presented. All were approved with the exception of one stallion. Cashel’s Rock of Ages (Custusha’s Cashel Rock X Erinmoor Lily O’Fallon [ by Hisega Meadows Erin Bobby]) was awarded a Premium stallion designation.

Spokane, Wa: After the inspections were completed on Saturday three of the inspectors left for the airport and a trip to Spokane where inspections were held on Sunday. In Spokane, 12 ponies were inspected, including a third blue-eyed cream, and all were discussed with a very appreciative audience afterwards. One said that it was the best discussion of Connemaras she had ever heard. The Inspectors were delighted to find two more Premium stallions in Spokane, Skyview’s Orion (Custusha’s Cashel Rock X Skyview’s Lady Rigel [by Gilnocky Drumcliffe] and Balius Ryddspence (Chiltern Colm X Polaris Suzanne). Ryddspence, who is 23 years old, was looking the picture of a vibrant, correct, and elegant Connemara.

A new list of all inspected ponies as of October 21 will be posted on the ACPS web site.

Blackforest, Germany: Elke Bader has sent news from her Blackforest Connemaras…… “Our daughter Jennifer and her two girlfriends decided to organize a circus event at Blackforest. They trained with Vanity (Blackforest's foundation Connemara mare) and our collies Indigo, Jeany & Jasmin (the latter just being 7 months old). They jumped from the ground on Vanity's back and from her hind back to the ground and lots of such funny things. I was not allowed to help in anyway.

“Finally last weekend they took Vanity and all together they walked through the streets of our village and the neighbour villages and collected interested children as well as adults to view their presentation. Unbelievable they returned with nearly 36 people (mostly kids) and all took seats in our riding arena - where they prepared the circus-ring. Of course at the end of the day they offered pony riding.

“I found this a wonderful and very welcome diversion from (competitive) shows and other performance activities - just having fun with kids, ponies and dogs. I attach a picture of them starting their way through the streets and another one returning. Some more pictures of their "stunts" are on our web if you are interested: www.blackforest-connemara.de

Blackforest, Germany: Elke Bader also sent a photo of her Australian Connemara, Glenormiston Annashee (Castle Baron X Glenormiston Abbeylara [ by Domo Cavallo Praize]), enjoying the Fall colors in Germany.

Oughterard, Ireland: Jesse Cohen has sent results from the Oughterard show on October 25 and 26 in Ireland. Jesse points out that some shows in Ireland are offering classes for bay mares, as this one does. She has also kindly posted information on their pedigrees. Foto-job.com has pictures and results (first place ponies anyway) for the Show.
