Napa, Ca: Joanie Webster and daughter Lee recently spent a wonderful day with the Los Altos Hounds. Joanie has sent this report. “Early in the morning, Lee and I were off to share a beautiful day, driving several hours from here to a site north of Sacramento. Lee and her Connemara gelding, “Monty,” rode for three hours with the Los Altos Hounds. I was there to help serve the “Stirrup Cup,” spectate and spring clean the tack compartment of the trailer! Imagine!

Lee Webster on Stonybrook Belmont
This hunt club is able to regularly ride over the rolling green countryside of two adjoining ranches totaling more than 10,000 acres, with hounds on the live scent of resident coyotes. What a treat, to behold this colorful outing! Though the three fields were not as large a complement as usual, there were 18 horses and riders participating. A little bit more about ‘Monty’ AKA Stonybrook Belmont. . . He is by *Hearnesbrook Dunoon, and out of our ACPS Approved BEC mare, Stonybrook Irish Crème, (now owned by Chris Carey, Caraway Connemaras, Quebec, Canada), who is by *Grange Finn Sparrow. Playing one day last year in Lee’s outdoor arena, blanketed with two winter rugs, Monty jumped a 4’2” gate, just to
trot up the hill to see some of his friends! He is a character—sort of the “Curious George” of the equine world! He loves people and activity and is
quite a talented Connemara pony!”

Reading, VT: Sally Oxnard reports that in Region 1 the show planning committee braved minus 17 degree days to travel to South Woodstock and get started on the big Region 1 Show. This will be on August 8 and 9, 2009. Please save those dates!! This year they plan to incorporate a two phase into the show. The committee met at the home of Susan Goodhouse who showed of f her 2 year old dark dun filly RMF Lady Avoca (*Sydsderff Avalon x Tower Hill's Megan [by Chiltern Copa]). The picture shows Susan, Bette Fredrickson, Pam (the new show secretary) and Linda Haines admiring Lady Avoca.(picture by Sally Oxnard) |
Eatonton, GA: Rai Pullen reports that Caraway Charlotte (Maplehurst Micheal MacDaire x *Wensum Plum) aka Lottie and her rider, Grace Bridges, were awarded the reserve championship in their division at the AAHJA (Athens Area Hunter/Jumper Association) year end banquet.
Rai says, “The picture shows me, Grace and Kathy Jones (AAHJA president). I'd like to add (brag) that Lottie and Grace actually missed the first couple of AAHJA shows as Lottie had to wean her filly, Castlewood Clare(by Wildwych Eclipse) before she could attend shows.
ALSO- they just barely missed champion which was awarded to an imported Danish Warmblood schoolmaster- PONY POWER!” |
Ozark, AL: Kelly Windus’ daughter, Moriah, took this beautiful photo of their stallion, Glenormiston Cuchulain (Domo Cavallo Praize X Glenormiston Fionnuala [by Abbeyleix Finnbar]).
Although the rainbow landed right by Cuchulainn there was, unfortunately, no pot of gold found!
Unless it be Chuchulainn himself……

Grinnell, IA: Deb Clinch has sent this photo taken by husband, Gary. Says Deb, “This is the latest addition to the farm. We adopted a deaf Corgi from the local rescue organization and this is the ponies first glimpse of the "not so little" Rowan.
From left to right is Izzie, my Aladdin’s Denver baby out of Hohnhorst Madeline, Brother, a halfbred by Grange Finn Sparrow, and Derradda (Ginger Blue X Ros Na Ri Moira [by Chiltern Colm]). |
Elbert, CO: Karen Laden has sent these photos of her German-import stallion, *Smaragaid Cliff (Munkholm Cobbergate x Shamrock's Bright Roxanne) in January. Karen says he was showing off for all his female neighbors. She added, “He doesn't agree with the groundhog; Cliff says spring is on the way!” That would be nice!!

|
Bloomfield, IN: We have gotten lots more snowy photos. This pretty one is Willow’s Lord of the Dance (Willow Boy x Tre Awain Miss Muffet) strutting his stuff. He was bred and is owned by Erin Lemrow.

West Plains, MO: And Sue Laidlaw who recently moved from California to Missouri reports that her California Connemaras are both doing fine in spite of the ice storms that have hit Missouri. The photo shows the ponies’ paddock, luckily they were not there!! Sue says, “ In case folks missed the small mention in the news about southern Missouri being hit by an ice, sleet, and snow storm, here's some of the scoop. On Monday afternoon it started to sleet/rain. By evening it was ice and sleet. By Tuesday it was all ice. Power went out Tuesday afternoon. Everything is covered in ice - trees, fencing, etc. Then we got some snow - made the ice less slippery. Still no power on Wednesday. Out in the country no power means no water. No water means the ponies' water freezes over - well over an inch thick. Finally power back Wednesday evening. Thursday morning still on, so Dillon (Corgi) and I came home. It went off again at 1:30; came back on about 5:30. It'll be at least a week before all the power in south central Missouri is back. Fortunately the neighbors have a generator, and they were nice enough to invite me to stay with them so I could feed and check on the horses - and of course break the ice in the water trough. The California girls are fine. They both walk slowly across the ice and snow and are getting used to the sound of cracking branches and trees thudding to the ground.” |
County Galway, IRELAND: Even Ireland has seen a lot (for Ireland) of snow. Karen Vicencio has sent this photo of Faerietale Dreams (Fredricksminde Hazy Match X Gra Mo Chroi [by Abbeyfort]) and her foal, Magic. Karen says, “I know compared to many of you, it's not enough to even be CALLED snow. But you need to remember, we get very little, are not
prepared for it, have no road clearing or any other sort of equipment to
deal with it... It's a lot for us!” And in the meantime, Australia is literally on fire. |
Uetze-Katensen, GERMANY: Patricia Schmidt of Patty’s Connemaras writes, “The latest pretty exciting news from all of us at Patty’s is that two stallions from our breeding have left for Ireland! Pattys Veuve Cosmic (Patty’s Veuve Cliquot X Jacobsdal Blue Bell [by Rolls Royce]) will be added to the stallion roster at Cullintra Stud, where also our Springfield Shadow is standing at stud since last year and Rhinstroems Mighty Man (Oexenholm Markbook X Kirstinelunds Juicy)h as left for the Newgrange Stud, also a very well known breeding farm in Ireland. All 3 stallions will go to the several stallion parades in Spring and hopefully also to the Dublin Royal horse show in Autumn later this year. Cosmic and Mighty are available for frozen semen for all mares outside of Ireland.”
