NOTE: The news lady is taking a vacation and going on a cruise to Alaska! So there will be no new news until July 8. But keep your items coming, I will put it all together uponst my return. In the meantime, read some of the old stories that you may have missed. They can be found by clicking on the “Read More On Our News Page” link. If you scroll to the bottom of that page you will see links to 28 weeks of news!! (no wonder I need a vacation!).

Newberry, Fl: News Flash!! W.H. Top Gun (Gunsmoke X Ballywhim Candace [by Dallen McMor]), owned by Jim and Nancy Kilcrease, was the Champion Stallion and the Champion Connemara in hand at the June 9 Region 4 show. *Belle Dawn (Laerken’s Cascade Dawn X Lizabelle [by Loobeen Larry]) was the Champion Mare and the Reserve Champion in hand. *Belle Dawn, aka Minnie, is owned by Donna Duckworth.

Gardiner, NY: Ginny Winkler announces that Folklore Honor Larkin, (Tre Awain Cavin O’Conor X Balius Shioban), owned by Gloria LaCroix, has produced a beautiful filly by TreAwain Dobh McDuff (Tre Awain Ginger Blue X Tre Awain Roisin Dobh). Honor was awarded her premium status last fall.

Warner, NH: Bette Fredrickson and her pony Caraway Piper (Irish Park’s Caraway Finn X Kindesella Contessa) participated in the Granite State Driving Association drive
through the beautiful trails at Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown. Bette writes, “A friend went with me and we left with plenty of time. That was a blessing because once in the park we missed a sign and ended going up down a trail. Luckily there was a field to turn around in. Poor Piper ...it must have been quite the ride. We found the right gathering point. There were many big trailers as many people are lucky enough to put the driving vehicle and their horse in the trailer. I have a fancy electric winch system to put my cart on the pick up and it takes a good deal of strength. Piper was fantastic. Her road work is active and forward and she was eager to move on. (if you stopped the mosquitoes carried you away) She was not happy slowing down, as there was a pair of Haflingers in front of us. Once we passed them she was able to use her ground covering gaits. She breezed through the 6+ mile route. I was surprised how many people came up to me and asked what her breeding was. Everyone said, ‘wow, I've never seen a Connemara before!......I'm really impressed!’ She really did impress everyone........that's a Connemara and I love her!”

Sparta, NJ: Good Earth Erin's Nighthawk (Hideaway's Erin Go Bragh X FF Sparrowhawke), owned by Lynn Garafola of Sparta, NJ and ridden by her daughter, Cristina Garafola, took second place in Open Preliminary at the Virginia CCI*. They also took second place in OP two weeks previously at King Oak HT. Trainer, Carol Kozlowski, Avon, NY coached Cristina and Hawk to their good showings at both King Oak and VA CCI*. Sarah Booher, breeder of Nighthawk says, “Cristina and Nighthawk were doing very well last year when Hawk had an injury in early fall 06. After laying off all winter and lots of walking they are back. They started out easy at Morven Park Spring HT and took 4th at JY Training level II. In May they moved back up to Preliminary and asked Carol Kozlowski to coach them at the competitions.” The attached photo shows Cristina, Hawk and Carol Kozlowski with smiles all around after the VA CCI*. Cristina is truly multitalented -- she is going to China for 10 days in late June as the Principal Clarinetist with the Sussex County Youth Orchestra. She is also graduating from Sparta HS as the Salutatorian with a 4.6 GPA on June 22. Cristina will attend Hamilton College in Clinton, NY this fall and will major in Public Policy and East Asian Studies.

While there, she went to her first show with 2 scores in the sixtys and came in 2nd overall in young stock in Dressage. Owner Ginny Winkler says, “she is inspected and approved and is for sale.”
