Fayetteville, Ga: Megan Buchanan Harris reports that Sparrow's Owen had a very successful outing at the Poplar Place Schooling Show on August 15th. He competed in two jumper classes taking home a fifth in the 2'6" class and a first in the 3' class! He also won his dressage class, Training Level Test 1.

Owen is a half-bred gelding by *Grange Finn Sparrow and out of an Appendix mare.

"Lottie" and Grace Bridges in Tryon

Eatonton, Ga: Rai Pullen reports that Caraway Charlotte (Maplehurst Micheal Macdaire X *Wensum Plum) has been very busy this past month on the local hunter/jumper circuit with her two young riders, Grace and Lily bridges. Grace has been riding “Lottie” in the schooling hunter division while her younger sister, Lily, has been riding her in the crossrail division. Lottie has two more shows left in the summer series before the yearend finals which will take place at the Georgia International Horsepark in early October. A few weeks ago both girls took Lottie to Tryon,N.C. for a three day show in the progressive show jumpers series. Lottie did very well against some tough competition and her riders LOVED the atmosphere of such a horsey place as Tryon. Last weekend Grace and Lottie had the honor of participating in a clinic with Alejo Maddalena who is a much accomplished trainer.

"Ivy" and Abbey Holloway at the
Alejo Maddalena clinic

Rai also reports that, “Castlewood Farm has a new boarder (a Connemara-of course!) named Newmont Isadora Duncan. “Ivy” is a bay roan mare by Moxley Duncan and out of an Aladdin mare. Ivy was purchased by one of my former students, Abby Holloway, as a move up mount. Abby currently shows a 13 hand pony and has been looking for something a bit bigger to take up to the three foot pony hunters one day. Abby and Ivy will work together thru the winter and hopefully make their show debut sometime next spring. Abby also rode Ivy in the Alejo Maddalena clinic and did quite well after only owning the pony for a few days.

Clifden, Ireland: Karen Vicencio has sent the following report from the annual Pony Show in Clifden: “Well, we are finished up with another year at Clifden. The show has gotten bigger and better, they've been adding more and more each year. Thursday was the traditional show, with all the breeding classes and the under saddle classes. Currachmore Cashel (Rosenaharley Rowley X Tolka Bridge [by Bridge Boy]) was the champion of the show, the first time in years(and only the second time in history) that a Connemara Pony not based in the Connemara area has won. Joe (Joe Burke, son of breeder and owner Eamon Burke) is absolutely over the moon about the win. (Note: April Rose (Streamstown Larry X Errisbeg Dolly [by Abbeyleix Owen]) was the reserve champion. She was bred by Michael Conneely, and is owned by Gearóid Curran.)

We got exceedingly lucky with the weather. There were heavy showers the day before, and every night, but during the two days of the show, we had mostly sun. In fact, there were a lot of very pink people running about by the end of the two days!

The performance day was fantastic. Henry O’Toole and his team built a drop fence and a bank to link the two arenas together, to make a really fabulous hunter course that used both arenas. The course was TOUGH, with a bending line to a very narrow stile, with three strides to a drop fence(and having to jump from grass onto sand as well) being one of the toughest tests. It really tested ponies and riders. There was a dressage demonstration and a musical ride, a parade of carriages and all the champions around the town, and then a pony puissance. The puissance was a HUGE hit, with the stands absolutely packed with people who came out for the event. Two ponies and riders jumped 145 cm to tie to win the class.

All the show results are up on www.cpbs.ie Susan says she will have all the show pictures up on the foto-job.com website by Tuesday.

The Clifden pony sales will be going on Saturday and Sunday. There are already a bunch of ponies in, and some of them are really lovely.”

Colville, Wa: Kelsie Staeheli , Jolley Fir Line Farm, sent this cute picture of JFL'S Cliff Dun (Tullymor's Mountain Sun X Bien Mallin's Legacy ). She says, “ Haven't most of us with kids felt the tug of our little ones when we just aren't doing what they want . I know I have and am glad they were not as presistant as Cliff!”

Creedmor, NC: Denise Hill has sent the following list of the classes that will be offered this year at the NC State Fair Horse Show. Denise says, “Complete details, entry forms, etc., should be on the website this week http://www.ncstatefair.org/2009/competitions/HorseShows.htm and the printed prize list will be mailed out next week. Please plan to attend this years show. We REALLY need to show: we want our breed represented! It's a very affordable show and the facility has gone under some major renovations in preparation for the State Fair this year.” Note: The show is Thursday, October 15 at 8:00 A.M. This is a USEF recognized show.
