Captain Jack Sparrow |
Beesd, The Netherlands: Captain Jack Sparrow aka Johnny (Seven Hills Grey Ghost X Tullymor Rose), an eight-year-old grey Connemara gelding has won the Single Pony, Advanced Division, at the recent World Driving Championships in Beesd. He is owned by Muffy Seaton and driven by Janelle Marshall. Johnny was bred by Kim Lander and named Poppyfield Shadowfax. The following is taken from Janelle’s website:
“Muffy Seaton purchased Johnny as a late three-year-old, ostensibly because he ate grape ice pops. He had been ridden, leading trail rides with kids. I instantly clicked with him; I remember picking his name out on the way down before I had even seen him. Boy, I got the name right, as he was a leggy, clumsy boy. Johnny took to driving exceptionally well. After only 4 years I have taken him from his first training level all the way to advanced. It has been a great journey. Named after Johnny Depp, he is a great pony to work with as he really likes his job. Even though he is happy go lucky, I have complete trust in him. He loves getting massages and personal attention, including baths. Which is good as being grey he gets a lot of them and he doesn’t like to stay clean! Johnny is a character and a joy for me to work with.”

Shamrock Laddie at the Cow Clinic |
Whitingham, VT: Searah's Shamrock Laddie (Valley Creek Angilieri X Spook Hollow Cordia) has been owned by Helena Ragone and Barbara Masley since he was 5 months old. He has been with his trainer Wendy Warner (Seven Springs Farm, Warwick, MA) for 6 weeks this summer and with less than 30 rides on him he attended his very first show, a dressage schooling show in Massachusetts. In a class of 10 he placed 5th in Intro A with one score of 9. The following weekend he headed up to Limerick, ME for a cow clinic with Brian Neubert and once again he shone driving not 1 cow but 7 cows! Proving that even at 4 years old he can do it all!"
