Week of 9-17-06

Do you have news about your Connemara that you would like to share with other ACPS members? Email Donna Duckworth with the details and any photos to duckwort@mgm.ufl.edu. Show results, results of inspections, new foals or unusual adventures especially welcome!

Larkspur, CO: At his very first dressage show, 4-year-old Wildwych Scofflaw ended the day a champion. Scofflaw won the Intro Level with scores of 68.096 percent and 72 percent against a field of both horses and ponies. In addition, the talented half-bred gelding was named Champion Pony of the entire Rocky Mountain Dressage Society recognized show on Sept. 9. Scofflaw is by Glenormiston Flurry Knox out of a rather remarkable grade pony, Phoebe. At 30-some years old, Phoebe is still producing a foal/year! Scofflaw is owned by Karen Laden of Kingswell Connemaras and was ridden by Alison Wilaby, a graduate C3 Pony Clubber.

Lyme, CT: Glastonbury Pony Club ended up in first place at the Connecticut Valley Pony Club's D-Rally that was held at the lovely Lord Creek Farm in Lyme on September 9 and 10. Steph Giola, the team's captain aboard the Connemara halfbred, C.K.C. Katie (Hideaway's Erin Go Bragh x Feather in My Cap), led the way with a nice dressage ride and clean cross country and stadium rounds for the D-3s. The weekend before, the pair won the Junior championship for the 2-phase division at the Randy May Memorial horseshow. Steph hopes to do her C-1 rating on C.K.C. Katie at the end of October.

Meg Brauch and the 5-year old halfbred, Crib Glas Mandolin (Bobby Brown x G.G.'s Dove), won Babcock Hill Equestrian Center's High Point Dressage award for holding the highest dressage scores for the season. Their scores ranged from mid-60's to a high of 69% for Training Level dressage tests. Meg hopes to show the mare at First Level 1 & 2 in October.

St. Louis, MO: Balmullo’s Azalea has a new owner, 12 yo Katherine Woodruff. At their first show ever, the PreCharity A2 rated Hunter Jumper show, they were third in the undersaddle class and 6th in the over fences out of classes of 12+ ponies in the Novice Children’s Division. Katherine had only ridden Azalea twice before this show. Azalea and Katherine will be showing in the Large Green Pony Hunter division next year around the country. Says Michelle Haas who trained Azalea, “They are sooo cute together” . At the same show Balmullo’s Gallagher (akaEmmitt), owned and ridden by Michelle, showed in the Adult I division for horses/ponies/riders not quite ready for 3' over 2'6" fences. He was first in two over fences classes, and first in the undersaddle class the first day. The second day he was second and third over fences. Emmitt was the only pony in this division and in the end he was champion at his first A hunter show!
